[Beta Feature] Add Reference Calls to Your Screening

We’re testing a new add-on feature to help you gather more insight into your applicants through live reference calls. Here’s how it works during this limited beta release.

What's Included

The Reference Call Add-On includes two live phone calls:

  • Current Employer
    We confirm employment status, job title, start date, and monthly income. This includes salary, hourly wages, tips, commissions, and bonuses.
  • Current Landlord
    We confirm rent payment history, property care, and overall tenant reliability.

We make up to three call attempts per reference, spaced across three business days. Once the calls are complete, you’ll receive a summary of the results by email.

Who Pays for This Service?

The cost of the reference verification is covered by the agent or landlord who requested the screening and opted into the add-on.

Who Is Eligible?

This feature is currently available to agents or landlords who receive a completed screening package but did not purchase additional verifications or are not RentSpree PRO members. They’ll receive an email with the option to add reference calls shortly after receiving the screening package.

How Is Authorization Handled?

If a reference contact requests signed authorization, we handle it directly with the applicant. You do not need to follow up. We’ll take care of the request and provide updates as needed.

What's the Process?

  1. You receive an email offering the option to add reference calls.
  2. You click the call-to-action and enter your email address, along with the applicant’s name and email address.
  3. A trained Customer Support Specialist is notified and begins the reference outreach.
  4. Once completed, you will receive:
    • A summary of the results by email
    • A link to submit payment
    • A short feedback survey

Common Questions

Do you verify landlord identity using MLS records?
No, we do not currently validate landlords against MLS databases.

Do you validate employment through external tools like The Work Number?
No, all employment verification is done through direct outreach to the employer listed by the applicant.

Can PRO or Premium users purchase this add-on?
Not yet, but we're planning to make it available soon. 

How long does it take to receive results?
We aim to deliver results within three business days.
Note: This timeline depends on how quickly reference contacts respond. If they do not respond to the first call attempt, additional follow-ups may extend the timeline.
