Can I pay the application fee instead of the applicant?

Yes. You can choose who pays the application fee, you or the applicant, but only before you start the screening. If you already sent the request with the applicant paying, start a new request with I Pay selected and send the new application link.

How to choose who pays

  1. Select Screening from the left menu, then Screen tenant.
  2. Add or select a property.
  3. On the application package page, select Edit.
  4. Under Who pays, choose Applicant Pays or I Pay.

Already submitted but still asked to pay?

If the applicant submitted but your dashboard still asks for payment, the request was created with I Pay selected, so you're set as the payer. Payment settings can't change after submission, so you have two options: create a new request with Applicant Pays and resend it (most of the applicant's info carries over, so they won't redo the whole form), or pay and request reimbursement outside RentSpree.
